IPOH: For the past six months, four KTVs here have been raking in big bucks from Myanmar nationals, offering entertainment and the company of guest relations officers (GROs) from the country.
With packages ranging from RM450 to RM600, each of the four KTVs made between RM6,000 to RM7,000 a night.
For the syndicate behind the KTVs, this translated to well over RM20,000 a day.
Yesterday, the Immigration Department put an end to the syndicate's run after raids on four premises.
The raids saw the arrest of 39 Myanmar nationals including 19 GROs. Those arrested are aged 19 to 35.
Perak Immigration director, Meor Hezbullah Meor Abd Malik said the KTVs have been under surveillance for the past two months and only cater to Myanmar nationals.
He said alcohol was also sold at the KTVs which were also being used for gambling.
"It is believed the GROs also offered prostitution services outside the premises," he told reporters after the raid.
The detainees were brought to the Immigration Depot in Meru Raya.
The case is being probed under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act for unlawful entry into the country and Rule 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations for breaching the conditions of their permits.
