Two 'aggressive' Indonesian women fail in bid to escape Immigration officers

JOHOR BARU: Two Indonesian women who were hostile with Immigration officers and attempted to escape were among 29 foreigners detained for working without permits and overstaying yesterday.

State Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the women had acted aggressively and attempted to flee the scene when the officers conducted inspections on foreigners who were rounded up in Taman Century.

However, they are quickly apprehended, and detained for failing to produce valid work permits and overstaying.

Rusdi said a series of operations were conducted at stalls and restaurants operating in Taman Century and Kampung Melayu Majidee, here, following public complaints.

The operation, codenamed Op Selera, saw Immigration officers inspecting some 62 individuals' documents.

Of the 29 foreigners detained, 22 were 22 Indonesian women, six were Indonesian men, and one was from Myanmar. They were aged between 25 and 54.

The detainees had violated the Immigration Act as they did not possess valid passes or permits, overstayed or had misused social visit passes by seeking employment.

A local woman was also arrested for harbouring the illegal immigrants.
