JOHOR BARU: The Johor Immigration Department detained 110 foreigners and a 31-year-old local man in series of joint-operations statewide, which ended yesterday.
During the two-day operation, the department inspected the documents of some 791 individuals.
State Immigration director Datuk Rusdi Mohd Darus said the local man was a human resources manager of a factory.
The foreigners were detained for failing to produce their working permits, and the manager for harbouring them.
He said the operation that started on July 28, saw 52 Bangladeshi men, 25 Indonesian men and nine women, 10 Myanmar men and two women, two Pakistani men, four men from the Philippines and India, and a man and a woman from Cambodia and Nepal detained.
The detainees aged between 17 and 65 years, had worked and remained in the country without the required permits.
The operation codenamed Ops Bersama, also saw the involvement of officers from the department's state headquarters and Kota Tinggi branch, Kulai district police, the Road Transport Department, the National Registration Department, Kulai Municipal Council, Kulai district office, Kota Tinggi district council, Labour department and Tourism, Arts and Culture ministry.
Rusdi said the operation was launched following public complaints that a significant number of foreigners were suspected working without valid permits and lacked proper travel documents to reside in the country.
They also issued 13 notices to individuals to assist with the investigation.
All detainees were placed at the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot, pending investigation and further action.
