Court 'serves' Nasi Kandar shop boss RM30,000 fine for bribery

IPOH: The owner of a Nasi Kandar restaurant was fined RM30,000 in default of three months in jail by the Sessions Court after pleading guilty to bribing an Immigration officer last month.

Rezaul Shajahan Ali, 37, a Bangladesh national made the plea before Judge Datuk Ibrahim Osman.

According to the charge sheet, Rezaul was accused of giving an Immigration officer a bribe of RM10,000 as gratification for not taking action against his 13 employees who either had no work passes or whose permits had expired.

The offence, under Section 214 of the Penal Code, was committed at the Perak Immigration Department office here on the afternoon of September 12.

Today, the court ruled that the RM10,000 bribe be forfeited to the government of Malaysia.

Prosecution was handled by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers Sharul Azuan Ghazali and Mohd Afiq Adnan, while the accused was not represented.
