Immigration nabs 36 undocumented migrants in Ketereh

KOTA BARU: The Kelantan Immigration Department arrested 36 undocumented migrants in an operation in Ketereh yesterday.

The operation that began at 6pm involved 58 officers from the Immigration Department, Road Transport Department and Kota Baru Municipal Council.

State Immigration Department deputy director (management) Nik Akhtarulhaq Nik Abdul Rahman said the migrants, all men, were from Bangladesh, Myanmar, Cambodia and Indonesia.

"The operation involved several houses rented by undocumented migrants, a food stall and a hotel in Kampung Chenderong Beta, Kampung Kubang Tin and Kedai Mulong.

"The migrants were arrested for entering Malaysia without valid travel documents, overstaying and misusing their social visit passes."

He said the Road Transport Department seized several vehicles used by the migrants.

He said the migrants have been sent to the department's detention camp in Tanah Merah for deportation.
