KUALA LUMPUR: A man has been arrested over the alleged assault of his partner after a night of drinking.
The victim, a human resource assistant who only wants to be known as c, said the assault occurred when she stayed the night at her partner's house in Seri Kembangan earlier this month.
"I have been in a relationship with him for more than eight months.
"I spent the night at his house on Oct 4 as we planned to go to a theme park the following day.
"We went for dinner with some friends that night and he drank alcohol.
"When we got home at 12.45am, I asked him what time should I set for the alarm, then he got irritated," she told reporters at the MCA Public Services and Complaints Department today.
She said he then punched and kicked her.
"He picked up a lamp and hit me with it. He also used a chair to hit my back.
"When I tried to leave, he grabbed a knife from the kitchen and held it against my throat," she said in between sobs.
Liew said she escaped about 1.20am and sought help from a neighbour.
"I went to the hospital. They found lacerations, suspected intercranial bleeding and multiple abrasions on my neck and limbs.
"I lodged a police report about 4am. Police told me that he also lodged a report claiming that I assaulted him," she said, adding that she now feared for her life.
She said police told her that as the case now involved two different allegations, she should get a lawyer.
"I fear for my safety. What if he comes back to hurt me again?"
MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong said his department would monitor the case closely.
"She was brutally beaten. She has a smaller build compared with her boyfriend. Police must investigate this case properly.
"Police asked her to get a lawyer, so we got Ivan Tan to represent her."
He said his department was told that police had opened investigations under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt with a weapon.
He said police told the department that the suspect had been arrested.
