KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained a remand order against a former senior executive of an oil and gas company, suspected of accepting RM370,000 in bribes to secure consultant contracts.
Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin granted the remand effective until Oct 18, this year, following a request by MACC at the Putrajaya magistrate's court.
The suspect, 50, was arrested at 5.30pm yesterday after appearing at the MACC headquarters to provide a statement, according to sources.
Investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly solicited and accepted bribes from four individuals to appoint them as expert geology consultants for his company.
"These consultants were paid between RM750 and RM2,100 per day, depending on their expertise. The suspect is believed to have received the bribes through bank transfers, ranging from RM150 to RM500 per day, into his account," said the source.
MACC's Senior Director of Investigations Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hashim said the case was being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the (MACC) Act 2009.
