KUALA LUMPUR: A former senior civil servant has been arrested for allegedly receiving a RM50,000 bribe to help another person secure projects from the government.
According to a source, the former senior civil servant who was attached to a government department was arrested yesterday evening by Johor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers.
MACC also arrested a second suspect, a company director who bribed the former civil servant.
The suspects, in their 20s and 50s, have been remanded until Oct 28.
"Preliminary investigations indicate the suspects have been colluding since 2021.
"The former senior civil servant is suspected of receiving RM50,000 in cash in stages in return for helping the other suspect secure three projects."
When contacted MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya confirmed the arrests.
The case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act for corporate liability which carries a fine of up to 10 times the value of the bribe of RM1 million whichever is higher or imprisonment of up to 20 years, or both upon conviction.
