GOF seizes illicit cigarettes worth RM130,000 in Kota Baru

KOTA BARU: The General Operations Force seized 120,800 sticks of illicit cigarettes worth more than RM130,000 in an operation in Kampung Pengkalan Nangka near Pengkalan Chepa last night.

GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said a 43-year-old man was arrested in the 9.25pm operation.

A GOF team from its eighth battalion raided a premises in the village folllowing public tip-offs.

"After raiding the place, they found the cigarettes inside a store room. They later detained the suspect," he said in a statement.

Nik Ros Azhan said the cigarettes were believed to have been smuggled to Kelantan via the border area and would be distributed to local buyers.

In a separate case, he said a 47-,year-old woman suspected to be smuggler, was arrested with 1,100kg smuggled rice in Pasir Mas yesterday.

The woman was driving a Proton Iswara when arrested in Kampung Kolam Gelang Mas about 7.40am.

"The woman was heading to a place to deliver the rice to her 'clients' when she was arrested.

"The rice, which was smuggled from Thailand, is worth nearly RM5,000," he added.
