TANAH MERAH: The army seized 26 head of cattle worth RM130,000 near the Malaysia-Thailand border here yesterday (Oct 13).
The Second Infantry Division however said no one was arrested in the 1.15am operation.
It said the army personnel on routine patrol spotted two men acting suspiciously near the bushes.
"Seeing the officers approaching the place, the two men fled to the neighbouring country, leaving the 26 animals behind," it said in a statement.
It said the case would be referred to the Customs Department.
The cattle were handed over to the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis) for further action, it said.
It is learnt that the animals were smuggled into Kelantan via one of the illegal jetties along the border before being left near the bush.
The animals would then be sent to their buyers via lorries from the jetty.
