GM charged with forging documents for inflated claims

IPOH: The Gerik Area Farmers' Organisation (PPK) general manager was charged at the Sessions Court here today with two counts of forging documents.

Mohd Fuad Omar, 40, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him before Judge Datuk Ibrahim Osman.

He was accused of submitting a fake invoice amounting to RM1,975, for the maintenance of a PPK office vehicle, a Toyota Hilux.

However, the original invoice was only RM288.30.

The offence was allegedly committed at the PPK Gerik office in the Hulu Perak district in Sept 30, 2019,

For the second charge, the father of three was accused of using a fake invoice amounting to RM1,155.20 for the purchase of goods for use at the PPK Gerik Agrobazar store.

The original invoice was only RM167.60. The offence was allegedly committed at the same venue on Sept 11, 2019.

For both charges, he was accused of committing the offence under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 and can be punished under Section 24(2) of the same act.

If convicted, he could face a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and a fine of up to five times the value of the false particulars or RM10,000, whichever is higher.

MACC prosecuting officer Mohamad Pahmi Ahmad offered bail at RM15,000 for each charge with one surety, and the condition that the accused must report to the Perak MACC Headquarters here on a monthly basis.

Raja Mohd Iskandar Zulkharnian Raja Abdul Malek who represented the accused, requested a lower bail, stating that his client works as an assistant economic affairs officer at the Perak Farmers' Organisation Authority (LPP) with a monthly income of RM4,600 and has to support three children, including one-year-old twins.

Raja Mohd Iskandar Zulkharnian added that his client has diabetes and is receiving hospital treatment at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.

The court then granted the accused bail of RM8,000 for both charges with one surety, and the accused must report monthly to the MACC Headquarters here.

The court has set Nov 14 for mention.
