KUALA LUMPUR: A man was fined RM1,500 after pleading guilty at the Yong Peng magistrate's court today for injuring another man and participating in a fight in Rengit last Friday.
Buletin TV3 reported that Md Shahrol Lagiman, 43, entered his plea before magistrate Suhail Shafi'uddin after the charges were read.
He was accused of causing injury to a 19-year-old in Kampung Parit Tengah, Simpang Empat, Rengit, at 12.50am on Oct 18.
The charge, under Section 323 of the Penal Code, carries a penalty of up to one year in prison or a fine of RM2,000, or both.
According to the case facts, the incident began when Md Shahrol encountered the victim at the Rengit Village Chief's Complex.
After advising the victim to go home, the victim's subsequent actions — revving his motorcycle engine — provoked Md Shahrol, who chased after him.
The victim lost control of his motorcycle, and Md Shahrol then punched him, causing injury.
In a separate charge, Md Shahrol and three other men were also charged under Section 160 of the Penal Code for their involvement in a fight at the same complex at 1.20am that day.
The other accused — Mohamad Safik Kasmo, 27; Muhammad Sahrul Naim, 23; and Muhammad Azrul Shah Mohamad Sarjan, 18 — also pleaded guilty and were fined RM500 each.
The altercation occurred after Md Shahrol asked the three men to leave the premises. The court warned that failure to pay the fines would result in one month of imprisonment for all accused.
Deputy public prosecutor Farah Wahidah Mohd Sharip prosecuted the case, while the accused were represented by Tan Song Yan from the National Legal Aid Foundation.
