Sister of Ulu Tiram police station attacker pleads not guilty in terrorism case

KUALA LUMPUR: The sister of the Ulu Tiram police station attacker pleaded not guilty to a charge of deliberately withholding information related to terrorism activities.

Mariah Radin Imran, 19, dressed in a black jubah, entered her plea before High Court judge K. Muniandy after the charge was read to her.

A kuih seller, Mariah was accused of intentionally omitting information she was legally obligated to disclose about a terrorist act, an offence under Section 130M of the Penal Code.

The alleged offence occurred between April 2017 and May 17, 2024, at a house in Kampung Sungai Tiram, Johor Baru. If convicted, she faces up to seven years in jail, a fine, or both.

The court set Jan 9 for the submission of documents.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Mustaffa P. Kunyalam prosecuted, while lawyer Arief Firdaus Ashikin represented Mariah.

Mariah was first charged in September at the Johor Sessions Court, which ordered her to undergo a mental health evaluation at Permai Hospital.

She was charged alongside her father, Radin Imran Radin Mohd Yassin, 62; her mother, Rosna Jantan, 59; and siblings, Radin Romyullah Radin Imran, 34, and Farhah Sobrina Radin Imran, 23.

The family faces multiple charges linked to the Islamic State terrorist group. Their case has since been transferred to the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

On May 17, a 21-year-old man, identified as Mariah's brother, Radin Luqman Radin Imran, stormed the Ulu Tiram police station in Johor armed with a gun and parang.

He killed Constables Ahmad Azza Fahmi Azhar, 22, and Muhamad Syafiq Ahmad Said, 24, and critically injured another officer, Mohd Hanif Roslan, before being shot dead.
