NILAI: The fate of the money raised by social media influencer Mohd Hazalif Mohd Hazani, popularly known as Alif Teega, 30, and his wife, Aisyah Hijanah Azhari, 26, would be decided by the courts.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the money, amounting to RM1.5 million, will be treated as evidence in court.
"Typically, the prosecutor will apply to the court to determine whether the money would be returned to the donors or channelled into government revenue," he said at the basic course graduation ceremony for MACC Officers Series 28 today.
He said the commission cannot make any decision regarding the disbursement of the funds.
"All the related money will be treated as evidence in court," Azam added.
On Sept 23, Hazalif and Aisyah were charged in the Shah Alam Sessions Court with 10 counts of misappropriating funds amounting to RM1.52 million reportedly collected for charitable activities, including food for the poor in Makkah and Madinah, aid for flood victims in Kelantan and Terengganu and Raya clothing for orphans.
Yesterday (Oct 23), Hazalif maintained his not guilty plea in the Shah Alam Sessions Court, to two counts of misappropriating over RM60,000 raised for two infak (charity) programmes this year.
