Malaysian Bar condemns violent assault on Penang lawyer

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Bar has condemned the violent assault of a lawyer in Penang, describing it as "cowardly and reprehensible".

Its president Mohamad Ezri Abdul Wahab said the body wants swift action from the authorities.

The assault, which took place on Oct 22 along Karpal Singh Drive, involved two unidentified assailants wielding metal rods, resulting in serious head and shin injuries to the lawyer.

"Lawyers are officers of the court, committed to serving justice, and must be able to carry out their duties without fear of violence or intimidation," Ezri added.

The Penang Bar Committee reported that the victim had no known personal disputes.

"We call on the police and authorities to take immediate and decisive action to investigate this incident fully, apprehend those responsible, and ensure that justice is served," Ezri stated.
