KOTA BARU: The General Operations Force (GOF) Southeast Brigade foiled an attempt to smuggle cooking oil worth an estimated RM46,750, believed to be bound for a neighbouring country, at an illegal base near Kampung Terusan, Pasir Mas, today.
Southeast Brigade GOF Commander SAC Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said the seizure was made around 4pm by a team of officers from Battalion 7 (PGA7) along with enforcement officers from the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry's (KPDN) Kelantan branch.
"Upon arriving at the location, PGA7 and KPDN personnel found a Nissan lorry that had skidded off the road and was abandoned by the roadside.
"Further inspection revealed hundreds of boxes containing 18,700 packets of cooking oil in the lorry, without any valid documentation," he said in a statement today.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961, and all confiscated items, including the lorry worth RM160,000, were taken to the Jelawat Police Station in Bachok, for further action.
