Woman held on suspicion of smuggling petrol in Kelantan

TUMPAT: A woman was arrested by the General Operations Force here for trying to smuggle petrol worth more than RM10,000 to Thailand yesterday.

The woman, suspected to be smuggler, was detained in Simpangan. A car used by the woman to transport the fuel across the border was also seized.

GOF Southeast Brigade Commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said GOF members were conducting Op Taring Wawasan Kelantan when they spotted the suspect at 8.55am.

"After stopping the suspect's car, they found 15 litres of petrol concealed inside the vehicle. The 46-year-old woman was arrested," he said today.

He said initial investigation showed that the fuel would be smuggled to Thailand via the many illegal jetties along the border. He said the suspect was handed over to Pengkalan Kubor police for further action.

In another case, he said a 47-year-old man was detained for possession of about RM9,000 worth of subsidised petrol here yesterday.

He added the arrest was made during an operation in Pos Ular at 9.15am.
