Police confirms arrest of 6 Malaysians, including female singer, in Thailand

KOTA BARU: Police have confirmed the arrest of six Malaysians, including a popular modern dikir barat singer, in Sungai Golok, Thailand, yesterday.

State police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said police were awaiting further details regarding the case from their Sungai Golok counterparts.

"I can confirm that Thai police have arrested six Malaysians, including a female singer from Kelantan, for possession of pills," he said.

"We were informed about their arrest by our Thai counterparts yesterday."

It was reported that the 29-year-old singer was among six Malaysians detained by Thai police for possessing 6,000 Yaba pills valued at over RM90,000 in Sungai Golok town early yesterday.

The six were detained at a hotel about 6am. They are believed to have crossed into the border town for leisure during the Deepavali holidays.

It is common for Malaysians, especially those from Kelantan, to visit the popular hotel in Sungai Golok town for leisure during weekends and public holidays, as the hotel features a disco that operates until morning.
