GUA MUSANG: The Sessions Court here has fixed Jan 15 for remention in the case of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who was charged with making seditious remarks in August.
Judge Nik Mohd Tarmizie Nik Mohd Shukri set the date following an application by the Pagoh member of Parliament's lawyer for the case to be transferred to the Kota Baru High Court.
At today's proceeding, Muhyiddin was represented by a team of six lawyers led by Amer Hamzah Arshad.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Azlina Rasdi led the five-member prosecution team.
Earlier when met outside the court, Amer Hamzah said that the defence team had requested for the case to be transferred to the High Court as it involves important legal matters, including the appointment of the Prime Minister by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
He added that the case should be transferred to the High Court to be heard by a High Court judge as it involves sensitive matters and addresses several key issues.
"We hope this application can be set this month or early December," he said.
It was reported that Muhyiddin, on Aug 26, pleaded not guilty to making seditious remarks at Felda Perasu.
He was charged with making the remarks near Dewan Semai Bakti in Felda Perasu here between 10.30pm and 11.50pm on Aug 14
The charges were framed under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948 and punishable under Subsection 4(1) of the same Act, which carries the maximum RM5,000 fine or three years' imprisonment or both if convicted.
