French man detained for DUI and verbal assault

BAYAN LEPAS: A French man was detained for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and verbally abusing police officers during a traffic stop.

Southwest district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam said that the incident occurred at a roadblock in Bayan Indah.

"When police conducted a roadblock, they signalled the driver of a Honda CRZ to stop for checks. During the process, the 29-year-old man became aggressive, verbally abusing the officers and pushing one of them," he said.

The man was taken to the Bayan Lepas police station, where a breathalyser test confirmed he was driving under the influence.

The case is being investigated under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Amendment 2020).
