KUALA LUMPUR: A large stockpile of subsidised cooking oil was uncovered in a restaurant's storeroom during an Op Kita Gempur raid last Friday.
During the 5pm operation, authorities seized 260kg of cooking oil packets, valued at RM650.
The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) said that the raid followed a complaint indicating that the restaurant had been receiving significant supplies of packet cooking oil from a bonded truck.
Acting on the tip-off, authorities conducted an inspection and found the subsidised cooking oil stored in a locked storeroom within the restaurant's kitchen.
"Restaurant staff were instructed to unlock the storeroom, but we were told that the key was with the restaurant manager. A local man later arrived to open the room," it said in a statement.
Upon further investigation, cooking oil packets were discovered, and the goods were subsequently seized.
Sales documentation linking the supplies to a wholesaler was also confiscated.
The ministry added that the restaurant did not have the necessary permit to store controlled goods for commercial use, as required under Regulation 18 of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974.
This violation constitutes an offence under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
