KPDN cracks down on grocery store for selective sale of subsidised cooking oil

MANJUNG: The Perak Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) raided a grocery store in Kampung Acheh after discovering that it sold the subsidised cooking oil to selected customers.

Its director Datuk Kamalludin Ismail said a team of enforcement officers raided the grocery store at 11.30am yesterday.

"The success of this operation is the result of information and complaints from the public, who were dissatisfied with traders selling the subsidised 1kg packets of cooking oil only to certain individuals.

"Acting on that information, Op Samar was conducted, and the shop employee informed them that the 1kg packets of cooking oil had been sold out the day before, and they were still waiting for a new delivery," he said in a statement today.

Kamalludin said a team of uniformed enforcement officers conducted an inspection and found that the premises had a valid CSA Retail License, which is valid until July 12, 2026, for controlled items such as sugar, cooking oil, and wheat flour.

The storage limit is 500kg for each type of controlled item.

Following this, legal action was taken against the premises suspected of committing an offence under Section 16(1)(a) of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

Any person holding a valid CSA GMT license who falsely denies possessing scheduled controlled goods, in this case, 1kg packets of cooking oil, is in violation of the act.

"A further inspection also uncovered a quantity of 1kg cooking oil packets placed in a small room, suspected to have been used as a storage area for the premises.

"A total of 78 packets of 1kg cooking oil worth RM195 were seized during the raid," he said, adding that the case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 and the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974.

He said KPDN would not compromise with any parties found to be involved in activities or syndicates misusing controlled goods such as the subsidised 1kg cooking oil packets.

"Stricter actions will be taken, including prosecution in court," he added.
