ALOR GAJAH: Police have launched "Ops Kesan" and "Ops Tutup" to track down a foreign man in his 30s who escaped from the Alor Gajah Court Complex earlier today.
Alor Gajah police chief Superintendent Ashari Abu Samah said they received a call at around 11.30am from a Customs Department officer, informing them that the suspect had escaped with both hands cuffed at around 10.10am.
"The suspect is believed to have climbed over a fence towards a nearby wooded area.
"During the incident, the suspect was being escorted to a vehicle when he suddenly shoved the escorting officer and escaped by climbing the court fence," he said in a statement.
He said the man, who was wearing a light blue T-shirt and white long pants at the time, was being brought to court for a case mention under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
"The effort to locate the suspect is being assisted by the K9 Unit. This case is being investigated under Section 223/224 of the Penal Code," he said.
Ashari urged members of the public with any information regarding the incident to contact the Alor Gajah police headquarters or the nearest police station to assist in the investigation. -- Bernama
