KUALA LUMPUR: The Armed Forces have launched a thorough investigation into the death of a trainee during a military training session at a public university.
"ATM is aware of reports circulating online regarding a father's claims about his child's death during a training session conducted by military instructors at a public higher education institution," the military said in a statement today.
The incident is being investigated by the Provost Marshal Branch of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF).
"We emphasise that the investigation will be conducted thoroughly, and no party involved in the case will be shielded or exempted from accountability.
"Legal action will be taken if any wrongdoing is proven," it said.
"We call on the public to give us (the Armed Forces) the space to investigate this matter comprehensively so that justice can be fully served to those affected," it added.
They pledge to keep the public updated as developments unfold.
"All investigation updates will be shared with the public from time to time," it said.
Previously, the media reported that a Reserve Officers Training Unit (Palapes) trainee from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) died on Nov 13 after allegedly undergoing a strenuous and unscheduled training session.
In a police report, the victim's father said that his child was physically abused, being stomped on the chest and forced to perform actions such as mimicking a horse while being ridden by the trainer.
