KUALA LUMPUR: Police have remanded two male suspects for gang robbery at a convenience store in Subang Jaya recently, in which goods and cash worth RM260 were stolen.
Subang Jaya police chief, Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat, said the two local suspects had prior criminal and drug records.
He said that in the 1.50pm incident on Nov 29, the suspects forced a store worker to hand over cash from the counter amounting to RM241.
They also took his sling bag containing personal documents, shop keys, motorcycle keys stored under the counter, as well as two packets of rice and two sandwiches.
"The total estimated loss was RM260. On the same day, police arrested two suspects, aged 23 and 24, at their residence in Subang Jaya, Selangor, and seized evidence related to the case," said Wan Azlan.
"Investigations revealed that the suspects arrived wearing a raincoat and helmet. One suspect took two packets of rice and two sandwiches and placed them in a bag.
"Shortly after, the other suspect entered the counter area and forced the complainant to open the cash register.
"Out of fear, the complainant complied, and the suspect took all the cash and the complainant's bag from under the counter. Both suspects fled immediately after the incident," he said in a statement.
Wan Azlan said the case is being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery, which carried a sentence of up to 20 years' imprisonment and might include caning upon conviction.
He added that the Shah Alam Magistrates' Court had granted a five-day remand against the suspects, effective yesterday to Dec 4.
He urged anyone with information related to the incident to come forward by contacting 03-7862 7222 or the Investigating Officer, Inspector Muhammad Fathurrahman Ampandi, at 011-2939 5178.
