BENTONG: Three people were arrested after a clip showing one of them allegedly assaulting a 19-year-old convenience store worker with a helmet went viral on social media.
The trio, aged between 27 and 36 years, were picked up by police in separate locations here at about 1.40pm yesterday.
District police chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar said a report was lodged at the district police headquarters about 12.10am yesterday.
"The clip which was posted on the X platform showed a convenience store worker being assaulted by another man using a helmet inside the premises. The clip had been uploaded online at 9.57am on Aug 28.
"Based on the closed-circuit television camera recording and public information, police detained three local men about 1.40pm.
"Two of them had previous records including for drugs," he said, adding the case was investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for assault.
Zaiham said initial investigations revealed that the assault stemmed from a verbal dispute and misunderstanding when the worker informed them that the premises were about to close for business.
He said the male victim had received treatment at Bentong Hospital and was out of danger.
