KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has never given up on tracking fugitive businessman, Low Taek Jho (Jho Low), who is linked to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the cooperation between the police and Interpol in tracking the wanted individual was ongoing.
"We successfully brought back Jasmine (former 1MDB lawyer, Jasmine Loo Ai Swan). This shows that we have never stopped pursuing Jho Low. We brought Jasmine back.
"As usual, the police are working with Interpol, and everything is proceeding as normal," he said when asked about the latest developments in the hunt for Jho Low during a recent interview with Kosmo!.
When asked about Low's last known location, Saifuddin said he receives periodic updates from the police.
"As of now, the situation remains unchanged. However, if there are any developments, such as with Loo, his associate, when we learn something, we will take action and bring them back. As for Jho Low, there is nothing new; the status quo remains," he explained.
He also mentioned that Malaysia's close relationship with China facilitates cooperation between the two countries if Jho Low's whereabouts are discovered.
"We have a strong relationship with China. I believe that if his location is known, cooperation will take place. If we receive any information, we will inform them immediately. As of now, there is no new information. The situation remains the same," he added.
On Nov 19, lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, during a forum titled Media Townhall: Getting the Facts Right - The Untold Stories of 1MDB & Other Cases, claimed that he believes Jho Low is currently hiding in Myanmar.
However, Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain clarified that the police have not received any information from the Myanmar police regarding Jho Low's whereabouts in the country, as alleged.
