Deadly plantation attack leaves one dead, another injured

KINABATANGAN: A shocking attack at an oil palm plantation here last Friday left one foreign worker dead and another seriously injured after a confrontation between co-workers.

Christian Andi, 30, was fatally wounded with a severe neck slash and bled to death at the scene.

Another man, Bernadus Bagalewok, 24, who attempted to intervene, sustained critical chest injuries during the attack.

District police chief superintendent Ravi Duraisamy revealed that the incident occurred following a birthday celebration.

Preliminary investigations indicate that both Christian and the suspected 40-year-old attacker were reportedly intoxicated when the violence erupted.

According to Ravi, the attack unfolded around 6.30pm when the suspects returned home after the celebration.

Witnesses reported seeing the attacker leaving Christian's house with a knife before confronting and stabbing Bernadus.

Bernadus now remains hospitalised at Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan, while authorities continue their manhunt for the suspect.

Investigators have filed charges under Section 302 (murder) and Section 326 of the Penal Code.

The motive behind the brutal attack remains under investigation, with Ravi noting that none of the workers involved possessed identification documents.
