Machete attack leaves Filipino dead, elderly man arrested

BEAUFORT: A Filipino man died with multiple slash wounds in Kampung Balibata early this morning.

The victim, in his 30s, was found lying on his back with slash wounds on his left elbow and the back of his neck.

District police chief Superintendent Wong Leong Meng said the victim did not have identification documents on him.

"The victim was found fully clothed, lying on blood-stained ground.

"He sustained two slash wounds, one on his left elbow and another on the back of his neck, believed to have been inflicted with a sharp weapon," he said today.

Following this, a team from the Beaufort district police headquarters' Criminal Investigation Department and the Sabah Contingent's Special Investigations Unit (D9) conducted Op Tutup and Op Kesan to track the suspect.

"A Filipino suspect in his 70s was arrested near Kampung Balibata at 2.30pm today.

"The team also confiscated the machete used in the incident.

"Preliminary investigations suggest the attack was motivated by a grudge," he added.

The suspect and the weapon were taken to the Beaufort district police headquarters.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
