KINABATANGAN: After two days on the run, a foreign man suspected of killing a colleague at the workers' hostel in Ladang Santos NPC here, was apprehended yesterday.
The man, in his 40s, emerged from hiding and surrendered himself to local villagers here at 5.30pm before being handed over to the police at 8pm.
Acting Kinabatangan police chief Assistant Superintendent Mohd Zulfikar Abd Salam said the suspect surrendered to villagers in Ladang Lokan Baru in Telupid, which is located about 12 kilometres from the murder scene.
He said the suspect was taken to the Telupid police station for further action.
"Police seized a 37cm machete believed to be the weapon used to slash one victim's neck and stab another in the chest.
"The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code and Section 326 of the same code," he said when contacted today.
Zulfikar thanked the local community for their help in surrendering the suspect. He said the police also advised the public not to speculate on the case on social media.
On Saturday, the suspect was believed to have gotten into a fight with a 30-year-old colleague before killing him by slashing him in the neck.
Another 24-year-old colleague, who tried to break up the fight, was injured after being stabbed in the chest with the machete.
As the 24-year-old colleague screamed for help, the suspect fled the hostel with the weapon.
It is understood that before Saturday's incident, the three of them had attended a birthday party for a colleague's son at the farm at 6.30pm on Friday.
