KUALA LUMPUR: A father claimed trial at the Sessions Court today for allegedly hurting his disabled daughter with a PVC pipe and causing injuries on her last Friday.
The 65-year-old man entered his plea after the charge was read out before judge Siti Shakirah Mohtarudin.
He was accused of using the PVC pipe to cause hurt to his 28-year-old daughter, who sustained injuries on her forehead as well as bruises and swellings on her hands, legs and body. He allegedly committed the act at 12pm at a house in Taman Connaught, Cheras on Dec 6.
The offence, under Section 324 of the Penal Code, provides a maximum 10 years jail term, a fine, whipping or both upon conviction.
The charge was read with Section 326A which states that anyone causing hurt with a weapon or a dangerous item shall be punished with imprisonment for a term of twice as long as the maximum term; or with a fine or whipping if found guilty.
Deputy public prosecutor Nidzuwan Abd Latip did not offer bail for the non-bailable offence.
"However, if the court wants to use its discretion to offer bail, I suggest it be set at RM11,000 in one surety, along with the condition that the accused must not harass the victim and witnesses."
The father, who was unrepresented, told the court he had no bailor and was unable to contact his family.
The court did not set bail and fixed Jan 14 for mention.
