Foul smell of body stuffed in luggage mistaken for dead animal

KAJANG: Residents of Taman CP6, Cheras Perdana, initially mistook the foul odor coming from a luggage bag for the scent of a decomposing animal.

A resident who only wanted to be known as Zali, 65, said that several residents and restaurant workers found the bag but were too scared to open it because of the terrible smell.

"We thought it was a dead animal, but then we realised the stench was coming from the bag.

"I went with a restaurant worker to take a closer look, and I noticed it was taped up. There were maggots, and the smell was just horrible," he said.

As a retired policeman, Zali immediately contacted the nearest police station.

He said that the bag was dumped near a Perodua Kancil.

Meanwhile, a restaurant worker, who only wanted to be known as Joe said that as soon as he got close to the bag, he knew something was wrong.

"The smell made it clear there was something bad inside, but I wasn't brave enough to open it."

Authorities confirmed later that the bag contained the body of a man, found near a drain in Cheras Perdana, Bandar Tun Hussien Onn.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof was quoted as saying that they were alerted to the incident by a concerned member of the public at 11.45am today.

Police went to investigate and confirmed that the blue luggage bag contained the body of a man.

Initial checks revealed the body was fully clothed but lacked identification documents.

The body has been sent to the Serdang Hospital Forensic Department for a post-mortem examination.
