AYER KEROH: A groom-to-be was charged in the Magistrate's Court today with reckless driving resulting in the deaths of two teenagers in Krubong last year.
S. Vinudharan, 26, pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read out to him before Magistrate Nor Syaliati Mohd Sobri.
He is accused of driving recklessly along Jalan Krubong Permai on the night of Dec 24, leading to an accident that killed Erwan Idris and Putra Norsyaqir Putrawirawan, both 16.
The charge was framed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act, which carries a jail term of five to 10 years and a fine of RM20,000 to RM50,000.
Vinudharan, whose licence has been suspended, could also lose his licence for five years.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Hanis Aliah Ahmad Kamarulnajuib requested bail be set at RM16,000, but Vinudharan's lawyer, M.X. Koh, sought a lower amount, citing the lorry driver's low salary and upcoming wedding next week.
The court set bail at RM6,500 with one surety and fixed Jan 27 for case remention.
