ISKANDAR PUTERI: A 43-year-old man was arrested last night for allegedly puncturing the tyres of parked vehicles in Taman Bukit Indah here.
The incident came to light after two video clips were shared on social media, showing a man in black shorts and a t-shirt walking past several parked cars before kneeling down near the front tyre of a vehicle.
When the vehicle owners returned to their cars, they discovered their tyres had been punctured.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Kumarasan confirmed that the man was arrested at 9.45pm following a report filed by a 21-year-old woman, who accused him of deliberately puncturing her tyres.
Kumarasan said that the footage, which went viral, was recorded on Dec 13 at 10am in Taman Bukit Indah.
The suspect, who tested negative for drugs, has a criminal record with six prior offences.
Police have obtained a four-day remand order to facilitate the investigation under Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief and causing damage to property.
The footage, which was shared on Facebook, sparked comments suggesting the man operated a nearby tyre shop and may have punctured the tyres to profit from repairs.
While Kumarasan did not confirm these allegations, he said that the motive was still under investigation.
