Stranded in South Korea: Police seek victims of travel agency fraud

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are urging individuals who believe they were scammed by an influencer running a travel agency to come forward and file reports immediately.

Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said that, to date, no official reports had been received.

"We encourage victims to step forward and lodge reports. This will allow us to work closely with South Korean authorities in investigating the matter," he told reporters today.

"These reports are crucial for assisting the victims and facilitating cooperation with South Korean police and Interpol."

The call for reports follows a viral TikTok video posted yesterday in which a woman claimed she had been scammed by an influencer.

In the video, the woman said that she and a group of others were stranded at an airport in South Korea because they lacked return flight tickets.

She said inquiries at the ticket counters revealed no tickets had been purchased in their names.

The woman claimed she contacted the influencer, who attributed the situation to "technical difficulties" in booking the flights and told the group to wait.

She demanded that the influencer take responsibility, adding they had fully paid for the trip.
