TAWAU: Despite nearing 70-years-old, a senior citizen remained active in committing break-ins, stealing various equipment and belongings to sell for cash.
This was the modus operandi of a 69-year-old man whose criminal activities were uncovered after he was caught breaking into a premise in the town centre yesterday afternoon.
District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Jasmin Hussin, said the arrest followed a report lodged by a company over missing items discovered on Dec 10.
"According to the complainant, the missing items included a television, table, chairs, gym equipment, and a drawer, estimated to be worth thousands of ringgit.
"The suspect is believed to have entered the premises before making off with the items," he said in a statement today (Dec 19).
Jasmin added that the suspect was apprehended by a team from the Criminal Investigation Division (BSJ) at a house near the crime scene. Several stolen items were also recovered during the raid.
"Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect acted alone and used the stolen items for personal purposes or sold them.
"The suspect has been detained and taken to the Tawau District Police Headquarters (IPD) for further investigation, he said.
