KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested eight people believed to have been involved in a gang robbery at a house in Pandamaran, Klang, which resulted in losses of RM600,000 on Thursday.
They were apprehended in a series of raids in Selangor and Negri Sembilan, according to Berita Harian.
According to sources, the first arrest involved a 23-year-old, shortly after the incident.
Further investigations led to the arrest of another suspect in the Klang area, followed by additional raids in Negri Sembilan, resulting in six more suspects being arrested.
It is learnt that several weapons used in the incident were also seized.
"Efforts to track down the remaining members of the group who are still at large are ongoing," a source said.
Previously, it was reported that a family suffered losses of RM600,000 after their home was broken into by a group of armed men in the early hours of Thursday.
Klang Selatan police chief Assistant Commissioner Cha Hoong Fong said one of the three residents, a 37-year-old man, was injured on the shoulder when he was slashed by one of the robbers.
Based on investigations, during the 5am incident, between 10 and 12 local suspects who arrived in two vehicles climbed the fence of the three-storey bungalow before entering the house.
"All suspects, who were wearing face masks, gloves, and armed with machetes, entered a room and tied up the three residents before ransacking the property.
"One of the residents managed to call the police, and as soon as the patrol car arrived, all the suspects fled in two vehicles," Cha had said in a statement.
