KUALA LUMPUR: No criminal elements were found in the tender process for the 1BestariNet project, says the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
As such, no parties will be charged in relation to the project under the Education Ministry.
In a statement, MACC said it had received instructions from the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) that no charges were necessary.
"As a follow-up measure, MACC's Governance Investigation Division investigated governance issues and financial claims related to the contract between YTL Communications Sdn Bhd and the Education Ministry.
"The DPP has instructed MACC to submit a full report on its findings to the Education Ministry, along with recommendations for improvements."
MACC said one of its recommendations was for the Education Ministry to engage YTL Communications to resolve any issues arising from the agreed tender service contract.
Yesterday, YTL Communications announced it had been cleared of any wrongdoing by MACC in the multi-billion-ringgit 1BestariNet Internet project.
In 2011, the government launched the 1BestariNet project with the aim of providing high-speed internet access to 10,000 schools nationwide.
The Education Ministry at the time awarded the 15-year contract, worth RM4.1 billion, to YTL Communications for the project's implementation.
In September, it was reported that MACC was investigating the awarding of the tender.
