Director and company fined RM240,000 for falsifying cooking oil sales audit

BATU PAHAT: A cooking oil packaging company director and the company paid RM240,000 in fines after being charged with falsifying information submitted in their sales audit last year.

Company director Mohd Nazib Jamean, 46, was fined RM90,000, or a a nine-month jail sentence in default of payment, while the company was fined RM150,000 by the Sessions Court here yesterday.

Judge Osman Affendi Mohd Shalleh also ordered the forfeiture of RM62,000 from the proceeds of cooking oil sales, which will be surrendered as government revenue.

The charges stemmed from false information submitted during a sales audit conducted by the state Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry's enforcement officers.

Nazib, who was represented by Tan Song Yan, pleaded guilty to both charges. The case was prosecuted by Firdaus Ruslan from the ministry.

State Domestic Trade director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo said the Nov 22, 2023, offence happened during an inspection at a premises in Tongkang Pechah here.

"The court's decision highlights the seriousness of offences related to the manipulation of controlled goods data and reinforces the government's commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in the supply chain."
