7 held for drunk driving on Dec 31 in Perak

IPOH: Seven men were arrested for drunk driving during an operation on New Year's Eve in Perak.

Acting Perak police chief Deputy Commissioner Zulkafli Sariaat said five men were arrested during the operation in Ipoh, while one man was detained in Taiping and another in Manjung.

The suspects are aged between 25 and 51.

He said five Indonesian men and one Bangladeshi man were also arrested for residing in Malaysia without proper documentation or permits.

"During the operation, 1,625 vehicles were inspected, and 1,687 people were checked.

"A total of 840 summonses were issued, with 22 motorcycles, two cars and one lorry seized.

"A total of 117 summonses were for driving without a licence.

"Other offences included issues related to vehicle registration numbers (100), lack of insurance or expired vehicle registration (86), traffic obstruction (83), and illegal exhaust systems or vehicle modifications (60)."
