GEORGE TOWN: Police detained a man inside a toilet within a forested area in Cangkat Bukit Gambir here yesterday for suspected involvement in the distribution and processing of heroin.
Northeast police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the man's arrest led to the seizure of 5.35kg of heroin, estimated to be worth RM51,370, along with various equipment, believed to be used for drug processing.
He said the 47-year-old man is believed to have been involved in drug processing and distribution activities since December last year.
"During the raid, police found a cardboard box containing heroin weighing approximately 5.35kg, valued at RM51,370.
"The drugs could be used by 26,755 people," he said tonight.
Rozak said the man's urine tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
"The man has a criminal record with 10 criminal and drug-related entries and is currently under remand for seven days starting today until Jan 8 for further investigation.
"The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 (for trafficking)," he added.
He said police also seized a Honda Wave motorcycle valued at RM3,500 under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988, bringing the total value of seizures, including the drugs, to RM54,870.
