BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police busted a drug distribution syndicate following the arrest of an unemployed man in an operation here early this morning.
Besides arresting the 39-year-old man in front of his house here, state police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad said police also seized drugs worth RM204,000.
He said the man was arrested after police searched his motorcycle, which led to the discovery of a plastic bag containing some drugs.
"Five plastic packages, suspected to be methamphetamine, weighing 6.1kg with an estimated value of RM195,200 were found, along with a plastic package, suspected to be heroin, weighing 900gm valued at RM8,800.
"The drugs seized are estimated to be worth RM204,000 and could be used for 35,000 individual doses," he said today.
Hamzah said intelligence revealed that the syndicate had been active in distributing drugs since September last year, with Penang being their primary market.
"A urine test on the man came back positive for amphetamines, methamphetamines and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). Further checks revealed the suspect had past criminal records, including for drug offence," he added.
The man is currently under remand until Jan 9. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
