BENTONG: Two Chinese nationals were abducted and robbed while on holiday in Gohtong Jaya near here on Dec 30.
The 26-year-old male victim and his 27-year-old female friend escaped with light injuries during the 6.30pm incident.
District police chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar said the Genting Highlands police station was alerted about the abduction at 7.40pm.
"The victims, Chinese tourists who are on holiday in Malaysia, were walking in Gohtong Jaya town when a BMW car approached them," he said in a statement today.
"Four male suspects inside the vehicle pulled the victims into the car, sparking a struggle. The female victim managed to flee on foot, while the male victim was driven away by the suspects."
Zaiham said the male victim was dropped off by the roadside after being robbed of his money and forced to transfer his savings to a bank account belonging to one of the suspects.
The victims, who sustained light injuries, were treated at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
The case is being investigated for kidnapping and causing harm during a robbery.
Zaiham added that police were tracking down the suspects and urged anyone with information to contact the Bentong police headquarters at 09-222 2222 or the nearest police station.
Several videos of the incident, captured by a closed-circuit television camera at a nearby business, have gone viral on social media, showing the suspects allegedly driving a black car.
