Jeram child abduction: Police to interview kids, medical exam this week

KUALA SELANGOR: The two children who were abducted by a man in a black Perodua Bezza in Jeram will be interviewed by police to get a clearer picture of what happened during the incident.

.

They will also be sent for a medical evaluation this week.

Deputy Selangor police chief Datuk S. Sasikala Devi said both children would be interviewed and receive counselling by specially trained D11 (Sexual, Women and Children Investigation) personnel from the Selangor Criminal Investigation Department.

"The children will also be taken to hospital for a medical evaluation. The process will take place this week," she said on Sunday.

She said the reason for the process was so that police could get a clearer picture of what transpired throughout the duration while the children were with the suspect.

She said a similar case occurred in April and investigations were underway to ascertain if the same suspect was involved.

"A suspect has already been arrested by the Kuala Selangor police in connection with the most recent case," she said.

Kuala Selangor acting police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Ambia Nordin said a local man had been arrested in connection with the case.

"The suspect was caught within the Jeram area here.

"We have obtained a five-day remand order against the suspect to facilitate further investigation," he said in a statement on Sunday.

He added that checks revealed the suspect had a prior record for house break-ins.

"A urine test on the suspect came back negative for drugs.

"We are now investigating the motive and modus operandi of the abduction," he said.

It was reported that two children were abducted by a man in a dark-coloured Perodua Bezza at Taman Ikan Emas, Jeram.

The two children were abducted on Friday evening while they were playing outside their house.

About an hour later they were found in an adjacent neighbourhood, unhurt.

Police have urged the public, especially parents, to watch their children as they play outside of the home in order to avoid untoward incidents.
