Man arrested over alleged Puspakom corruption remanded for seven days [WATCH]

PUTRAJAYA: A man, suspected of being involved in corruption during heavy vehicle inspections at the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom), has been remanded for seven days starting today to assist in investigations into the case.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) was granted the remand order when the suspect, in his 40s, was produced at the magistrate's court here this morning.

Magistrate Joanne Tan Xin Ying granted the MACC's application to remand the suspect until Jan 10.

The man arrived at the court at 10am, accompanied by officers from the MACC.

His two family members were also seen outside the court.

It was reported that the Road Transport Department handed the individual over to the MACC yesterday evening.

He was arrested after recording his statement at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.

MACC in a statement said preliminary investigations showed that the man had paid bribes amounting to several hundred ringgit per vehicle inspected to enforcement officers involved in exchange for approving the inspection of heavy vehicles at Puspakom.

The arrest underscores the MACC and RTD's strong commitment to upholding the integrity of vehicle inspection processes, ensuring they remain free from corruption.

MACC intelligence division director Datuk Zainul Darus, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and that the case is being investigated under Section 16(b)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
