KUANTAN: A housewife, 57, who was approached by three women asking for directions here on Tuesday, ended up handing them her savings and jewellery worth RM137,500.
The victim claimed that she was hypnotised and took the three women to her house near here before surrendering her valuables.
Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said today the victim was approached by the three suspects on the pretext of seeking her help to find a home.
"The victim claimed that she did not know the location.
"She was then instructed to withdraw her savings and surrender cash kept at her house.
"While at her home, the victim believed she was hypnotised (pukau) and handed over her jewellery and gold to the suspects.
"She lost RM137,500. She lodged a police report yesterday."
On Nov 14 last year, a shop assistant, 18, claimed that a female customer approached her about cosmetic products sold on her premises here before walking away with her bracelet, chain and gold ring, valued at RM4,000.
The victim claimed she was in a daze when handing over the valuables.
Meanwhile, Yahaya said a housewife, 67, lost RM160,000 after joining a non-existent investment scheme on Dec 8.
He said the victim saw a YouTube advertisement about a P Glo Pro investment scheme and was included in a WhatsApp group.
"She transferred RM160,000 to two bank accounts. The woman realised she had been conned when the scammers asked to pay more cash to get her profit."
