Kuantan sales assistant 'hypnotised' into surrendering RM4,000 jewellery

KUANTAN: A sales assistant, who was approached by a female customer inquiring about the cosmetic products sold at her premises, ended up handing her jewellery worth RM4,000 on Nov 14.

The 18-year-old victim, who had been on the job for only two weeks, claimed she was "hypnotised" into giving away her bracelet, chain, and gold ring during the 4pm incident.

The clip of the incident has gone viral on social media.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said investigations revealed the victim was alone when a woman posing as a customer stepped into the premises.

"The woman inquired about the cosmetic products sold at the shop and commented on the jewellery worn by the victim.

"While speaking, the victim claimed she appeared to be in a daze and handed over her bracelet, chain, and gold ring to the suspect.

"She only realised her jewellery was missing after the suspect left the premises. The receipts for her jewellery, which the victim had kept, were also no longer in her possession," he said in a statement today.

Wan Mohd Zahari said the victim claimed she had never met the suspect in her 40s at the premises.

He said police were in the process of obtaining the closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage from the nearby premises to identify the suspect and the case is investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
