[UPDATED] Graft scandal: Govt agency director among 8 arrested by MACC

KUALA LUMPUR: A government agency director and three company directors are among eight arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) as part of an ongoing investigation into graft allegations related to commercial vehicle inspections.

According to sources, the suspects, aged between 30 and 50, were detained at various locations across Melaka and the Klang Valley during "Op Loader," an operation conducted by the MACC Intelligence Division between 9am and noon today.

These letters were used to facilitate applications for Carrier License Class permits and vehicle lifespan extensions at a fee of RM3,500 per application.

"The companies assisted in falsifying documents and managing applications, including Letters of Approval (STK) and Letters for Vehicle Lifespan Extension (SKLU), allowing commercial vehicles to undergo Puspakom Preliminary Inspections," sources said.

The bribe amounts reportedly ranged from RM3,000 to RM20,000, depending on the type and age of the vehicle, as well as the financial capacity of the companies seeking the licences.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya confirmed the arrests, saying that investigations were ongoing under Sections 16 and 17 of the MACC Act 2009.

"The suspects will be brought to the Putrajaya magistrate's court tomorrow morning for a remand application," he said.
