GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Island City Council's (MBPP) new mayor took her oath of office at City Hall here today.
Datuk Maimunah Mohd Sharif, who replaces outgoing mayor Datuk Patahiyah Ismail, is the mayor effective July 1 this year until June 30, 2019.
Maimunah, who was the former Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP) president, thanked the state government for its confidence in her and pledged to do her best.
She said she was no stranger to MBPP as she began her career in 1985 as a city planning officer in the then Penang Island Municipal Council (MPPP).
“I was tasked with preparing the Structure Plan in 1985 and subsequently held the position of the MPPP planning development department director as well as the George Town World Heritage Incorporated (GTWHI) general manager position before I was appointed as MPSP president.
“Now I am back in MBPP with fresh visions and plans to make the island a greener, cleaner and happier place,” he said.
