KUALA LUMPUR: All Cabinet members’ salaries will be deducted for the next two months and it will be forwarded to the Covid-19 fund, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced today.
In a statement, the PMO said this would include the salaries of the Prime Minister, ministers and their deputies.
“This step (taken) is proof that the government is serious in helping those who are affected by the Covid-19 outbreak.
“The Covid-19 fund was launched on March 11 as part of the government’s effort to help the people affected by this virus.
“Up until yesterday (March 25), the total donation including the government’s grant was RM8,493,103.48,” the statement read.
Earlier today, Health Ministry director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said a 63-year-old man linked to the Sri Petaling tabligh cluster had become the country's 21st Covid-19 casualty. The man was identified as Case 1,588.
As of noon yesterday, Malaysia has recorded 1,796 cases of Covid-19 infections.
